Lehighton Lodge 621, Free and Accepted Masons, recently celebrated Veterans Day by recognizing veterans at the lodge and having a presentation on the Enigma Machine, which was instrumental in the Allies’ victory in World War II. The Masons had an actual Enigma Machine on display at the meeting as part of the presentation given by Brother Tim Mucklow, who is retired from the Department of Defense. The Germans used orders encoded by the Enigma Machine to advise their field commanders of troop movements, battle plans, etc., during the war. The breaking of the Enigma codes gave the Allies tactical advantages in battles, including the Battle of the Atlantic, the North African Campaign and the D-Day invasion.
