Caring Hearts collecting gloves, other winter items at park today

Caring Hearts in Slatington will hold its eighth annual Project Warm and Cozy and Caring Hearts Adopt A Tree event from noon-3 p.m. today at Victory Park.

There will be free cookies from Giant and hot chocolate, along with free pizza from local pizza shops, as well as free crafts for kids.

Santa will arrive by sled at 2 p.m. by the Slatington Volunteer Fire Department.

Burns On The Go Food Truck will be on-site with empanadas and other food.

Project Warm and Cozy features the hanging of hats, gloves, scarves and jackets in the park, said Neice Eie Martinez, founder/CEO/president.

Martinez said Adopt A Tree is in its second year, and added, “We are excited to keep this tradition alive in our beautiful park.”

She said they will hold a moment of silence for our military and veterans, with the playing of taps.

Martinez said they will also have a candlelight vigil to honor loved ones no longer with us. Local professional musicians will sing Christmas songs.

Martinez said that the tree lighting will be from 3-5:30 p.m.

She added that Allentown called her to bring the event to the city. Martinez said they will take the project to the parking lot on Seventh Street from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday.

Caring Hearts is a nonprofit that helps the homeless, less fortunate and veterans throughout the holidays.
