Panther Valley board retains leadership

The Panther Valley School Board reorganized before its regular board meeting Wednesday night with no changes.

Daniel Matika remains as board president with Shawn Hoben as vice president. Director Pat Leonzi was selected as an alternate representing the district as a member of the Joint Operating Committee of the Carbon Career & Technical Institute.

Following the brief reorganization meeting, the board took these actions:

• Hired Master Sgt. Robert Yaeger as a full-time permanent JROTC Non-commissioned Officer Army Instructor at the junior-senior high school effective Dec. 3. His salary will be based on Army guidelines.

• Approved three-credit courses for Richard Evanko, Julie Gower, and Kayla Kiraly, all intermediate school teachers.

• Approved the boys basketball booster club for 2024-25.

• Approved a three-year contract extension with Waste Management for trash services at a cost of $4,352.76 a month. Business Manager Jesse Walck said that he checked prices and was satisfied with the amount quoted.

• Approved homebound instruction for an 11th-grade student through Dec. 20.

• Approved Meredith Alabovitz as a mentor for new teacher Tyler Mangold.

• Approved the job description of Dean of Students. Superintendent Dave McAndrew said that position will handle discipline and school safety and will be a teacher, and not an administrator. The board did not hire anyone for the position.
