Jack Frost slopes open, Blue Mtn. set for Friday
One ski area has already opened in Carbon County, with another set to join the fray on Friday.
Jack Frost Big Boulder in Kidder Township opened at 9 a.m. Wednesday, said Tony Santora, general manager.
“We had a great turnout, the conditions were really good,” Santora said. “The cold snap we’ve had since Friday, we’ve pretty much had our snow guns running 24 hours a day.”
Santora said he believes Jack Frost was the first ski area to open in Pennsylvania this season.
“We had a really great opening day, had a good crowd right from the beginning,” he said. “Everyone out skiing said the conditions were really good, the groomers did a great job getting it all ready, everyone who was there had a great time out skiing.”
Santora noted they got six new energy efficient HKD snow guns that they were able to put on the hill that helped with their snow-making capacity.
He said they also made some upgrades throughout the lodge, such as refurbished tables and chairs that guests were able to enjoy.
“We’re looking forward to the rest of the season,” he said. “Anybody that wants to come should get their ski passes early to get the best deals on lift tickets, rentals, and ski school.”

Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton plans to open Friday, according to Ashley Seier, director of marketing.
Seier said the resort will open for its 47th ski season for skiing and snowboarding.
“We will have 11 trails (40 skiable acres) open on Friday,” Seier said. “Snow tubing will open on Saturday with 21 lanes.”
The resort had planned to open Nov. 29 but didn’t due a shift in the weather pattern,
However, snow-making began that night.

Elsewhere, Camelback Resort in Monroe County has an anticipated opening day of Dec. 14, said Marissa Boyd, director of marketing.
Boyd said new this year at the Resort in Tannersville is Black Bear, a 6-lift that has a large digital screen that will share lift updates, resort information, trivia, and more.
She added that Summit House will reopen as a dining restaurant at the top of the mountain and will offer quick bites, fun drinks, and beautiful views of the mountain. Ski in and Ski out access only.
Also, Boyd said the Resort updated its ticketing system so that it’s quicker for guests to hit the slopes.
