Palmerton Cat Project making an impact

Over 1,800 cats and kittens since 2014, now have a better quality of life thanks to the caring team and their supporters at the Palmerton Cat Project.

Last weekend the organization they held an event at the Aquashicola Fire Company to raise money with a holiday craft and vendor event, along with baked goods and a variety of soups made by volunteers.

When an ongoing crisis of feral/homeless cats peaked in the area, a group of locals decided to do find a humane solution to bring to the area. They began using Trap/Neuter/Release, and well as rehabilitating rescues for adoption and helping residents find lost pets.

Brenda Williams of Danielsville, board member of PCP since December of 2021, has fostered 45 cats to date.

The reason for the fundraiser is, Williams said, is “the cost of what it takes for each cat to be spayed, neutered, shots if there is any emergency medical conditions that need to be addressed.”

The cat project is grateful for support. “There is such a network of rescues that you can contact each other and everybody at the other rescues are willing to come together and it’s a wonderful support team,” Williams said.

“Everybody is so willing to come together to help each other out, and it’s a beautiful thing.”

As a collective they prove that you can make a difference when you work together towards a common cause

Stacy Goldberg said, “You have to have a love for cats. Helping the abandoned, the sick and the injured. If there is nothing more than a rewarding feeling of that; and they ask for nothing in return. That’s why I got into it, to help.”

Also co-owner of Country Clippers Pet Grooming in Palmerton, she said, “We’ll take donations and collect for the animals or we’ll sell our inventory here into the business, anything we can do to raise money, is what we do, we give back to Palmerton cat project through our business.”

Just last year 200 were saved because of communities like this working as a network of caregivers to animals in need.

“We couldn’t do it without the support of the people, that come together to support us in what we do,” Williams said.
