Lehighton Band to present season’s sounds

The Lehighton Band will present its annual Christmas Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall.

There is a cost to attend the concert. Home-baked cookies, along with hot and cold beverages, will be provided. The audience will be seated at tables, allowing them to enjoy a relaxing afternoon of music and treats.

The concert will kick off with Rob Romeyn’s “Rejoice the Season,” a dynamic and exciting Christmas piece. It will be followed by “All Is Well,” arranged by Michael Brown and made famous by contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith.

Next, the band will perform “Holiday Mash-Up,” a fun arrangement featured on the television show “Glee.” The piece combines “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Jingle Bell Rock” and is arranged by Patrick Roscell.

The band’s first set of soloists will perform “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” arranged by John Moss. Trumpet players Mike Reph and Eliza Cressley will be featured in this holiday duet.

That will be followed by Mariah Carey’s hit song “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” a modern Christmas classic.

Eliza Cressley will return, this time as a vocalist, to perform “Grown-Up Christmas List,” made famous by Amy Grant. The band and vocal arrangement is by Michael Brown.

Following Cressley’s performance, clarinetist Bob Birch will take the stage to perform Gabriel’s “Oboe” from the motion picture “The Mission.”

Next, the band will perform Leroy Anderson’s classic “Sleigh Ride,” in its original band arrangement by Anderson. It will be followed by “A Home Alone Christmas,” a medley of songs from “Home Alone 2.” Paul Lavender’s arrangement brings John Williams’ memorable score to life.

Vince Gassi’s arrangement of “The Moon of Winter,” subtitled “The Huron Carol,” will be the next selection.

Following that, the band will perform “Merry Christmas, Darling,” originally by The Carpenters, arranged by Michael Brown.

The next piece is “Angels from the Realms of Glory,” arranged by Robert W. Smith.

The concert will continue with another mash-up, combining “Let It Snow!” and “Winter Wonderland,” arranged by Ralph Ford.

The concert will conclude with a holiday sing-along, inviting the audience to sing with the band. The sing-along will include classics such as “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “O Christmas tree” and “We Wish You a merry Christmas.”

Tickets for the concert can be purchased at Carbon County Music and More, located inside the Boys and Girls Band Hall at 197 N. Sixth St., Lehighton. Tickets will also be available at the door as space permits, but it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance.

The Lehighton Band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
