Christmas festival to benefit fire company in Hometown
Folks are invited to the Hometown Volunteer Fire Company’s first-ever Christmas festival.
The event will be held from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, both inside and outside the fire company at 45 Mahanoy Ave. (Route 54) in Hometown.
“We’re trying to do something for the kids,” said volunteer Stephanie “Steph” Gerhard.
Both Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand.
“We will have a hayride with Santa and a story time with Mrs. Claus,” Gerhard said.
Children will be able to work on crafts and play games.
And to warm up, there will be a hot cocoa bar and a fire pit where attendees can toast marshmallows.
There is a fee to attend, which includes a hayride ticket and cow petting for adults, and a hot dog, cocoa, ornament craft, hayride, story time, s’mores kit, letter for Santa, cupcake decorating, games and cow petting for children under 12 years. The event is free to children 2 years old and younger.
For a separate fee, photos can be taken with a Highland cow.
Taylor Rex, of T&T Highlands, Germansville, will bring 8-month-old Jasper to the event.
“I am going to set up a little Christmas scene with a Christmas tree,” Rex said.
Jasper will be wearing reindeer antlers and a wreath at the festival.
In the event of inclement weather, the festival will be moved to Sunday.
Gerhard said those planning to attend should RSVP to the fire company through its events page on Facebook. Organizers are hoping to get a number of registrants so they can plan accordingly.
Funds raised will benefit the fire company.
