Police investigate bank withdrawals

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks reported a “better safe than sorry” incident. Police said a report of what a bank official believed to be suspicious activity actually turned out to be a legitimate transfer of funds in anticipation of Christmas.

Police said on Nov. 22, the security department of LinkBank, Valley View, notified the bank’s manager of what was believed to be “suspicious activity” from one of the bank’s customers.

Police said the bank official told them the customer deposited $9,000 in the bank and then the next day purchased 11 Walmart gift cards through the account.

When police contacted the customer, they learned he purchased the gift cards for his children and grandchildren for the holidays and that no crime had occurred.
