Fire sweeps through Mahoning home

A home was ravaged by a fire Sunday night in Mahoning Township.

Mark Ebbert, fire chief, Mahoning Valley Fire Department, said firefighters were dispatched at 9:16 p.m. to a two-story structure at 231 Keiser Lane.

Ebbert said the structure was fully involved upon arrival, and that a single occupant was at home asleep and awakened by the fire.

He said the occupant was able to get out safely, and added there were no injuries.

Ebbert said firefighters were able to get the fire under control within about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

He said the structure is a total loss, and that the cause of the fire is under investigation by state police fire marshal.

Ebbert said firefighters remained on scene until around 2:15 a.m.

“Just because it was fully involved from the start, it took so long,” Ebbert said. “The cold did play a factor, rural area.”

Ebbert said also assisting at the scene were the East Penn Fire Department, Lehighton Fire Department, Jim Thorpe Fire Department, Summit Hill Fire Department, and West Penn Township Fire Department, as well as Mahoning Valley Ambulance and Lehighton Ambulance Rehab.
