Christmas concerts and more featured at area venues

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, entertainment has begun to look a lot like Christmas.
Ryan Pelton will perform three Elvis Presley Christmas shows at Penn’s Peak, while Twelve Twenty-Four will bring its Trans-Siberian Orchestra tribute to Mauch Chunk Opera House.
Other performers set for regional holiday shows include Toolshed Jack, Engelbert Humperdinck and Jessica Lynn. In addition, Country Junction will kick off its “Great Christmas Adventure,” while Shawnee Playhouse will host two holiday musicals.

• Ryan Pelton: An Elvis Christmas Show, 1 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5, 8 p.m. Dec. 6. Pelton, an Elvis Presley tribute artist and actor, starred in the “Legends in Concert” show and won a 2002 “Elvis Impersonators Edition” of NBC’s “The Weakest Link.” In 2007, the songwriter was a body double for Presley during a performance with Celine Dion on Fox’s “American Idol.”
• “The Day the Music Didn’t Die”: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Fairy Tale, 8 p.m. Dec. 7. Ryan Pelton’s production acts as if the Feb. 3, 1959, plane crash that killed musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and “The Big Bopper” J.P. Richardson never happened. The show stars George Trullinger as Holly, Sting Ray Anthony as Valens and Tim Stamper as Richardson.

• Anthony Krizan Band, 8 p.m. today. The musician, lead guitarist of the Spin Doctors in the mid-1990s, released an album, “Dust and Bone,” in 2016 and a single, “Strawberry Wine,” in 2022.
• Twelve Twenty-Four: TSO Christmas Event, 8 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7. The northeastern Pennsylvania act, formed in 2002, pays tribute to Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

• Scotty Austin, 7 p.m. Dec. 6. Hailing from Parsons, Tennessee, Austin was lead singer of rock band Saving Abel from 2013 to 2021, with whom he recorded the 2014 album “Blood Stained Revolution.” The musician, whose other band credits include Trash the Brand and Full Devil Jacket, has a new single, “Left For Dead,” out now.

• Creed, 7 p.m. Dec. 2. Formed in 1994 in Tallahassee, Florida, the modern rock/alternative band has released four studio albums, with the first three selling a combined 23 million-plus in domestic sales. Creed’s biggest hit singles include “Higher,” “With Arms Wide Open” and “My Sacrifice.” After an 11-year hiatus, Creed reunited in July 2023.
• Disney on Ice Presents: “Into the Magic,” Dec. 12-15, seven shows. The show includes characters from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Moana,” “Coco,” “Frozen” and “Tangled.”

• Engelbert Humperdinck: “A Winter World of Love,” 8 p.m. Dec. 7. The British pop singer released the first of three-dozen-plus studio albums in 1967. Humperdinck, with several holiday albums to his credit, scored hits such as “Release Me,” “The Last Waltz,” “There Goes My Everything” and “After the Lovin’.” He released the EP “All About Love” in 2023.
• Trevor Wallace and Michael Blaustein, 8 p.m. Dec. 8. The show includes stand-up comedy and a podcast taping of “Stiff Socks,” the latter including audience interaction and a Q&A.

• Railroad Earth: Horn O’ Plenty, 7:30 p.m. today. The bluegrass band, formed in 2001 in New Jersey, released its latest album “All For the Song” in 2022. “The John Denver Letters,” out in 2019, featured Denver-penned lyrics set to music by Railroad Earth’s Todd Sheaffer.
• Jessica Lynn’s “A Very Merry Classic Christmas,” 8 p.m. Dec. 7. The country singer-songwriter‘s interactive multimedia show serves as a benefit for Toys For Tots. Born in New York City, Lynn will release sophomore album “All I Own” in January.

• “It’s a Wonderful Life: The Musical,” through Dec. 22. Based on the 1946 film, the show follows George Bailey’s life from childhood dreams to midlife disappointments and beyond.
• Holiday Cabarets, 7 p.m. Dec. 5, 12 and 22. The events support the Shawnee Playhouse Alumni Scholarship, given annually to graduating seniors.
• “A Christmas Wizard of Oz,” Dec. 6-21, Fridays and Saturdays. A snow blizzard carries Dorothy and Toto to magical Elfinsland, where they meet Glinda the Good Witch of the North Pole, Snowman, Tin Soldier and Stuffed Lion. Dorothy must return to Kansas to open Christmas presents, thus she sets off to meet the Wizard at the Great Palace of Toys.

• Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5. Chip Davis, founder and leader of neoclassical new-age ensemble Mannheim Steamroller, created this show. The group, founded in 1974, released its first of many Christmas albums in 1984.
• “Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet,” 7 p.m. Dec. 6. The show, revolving around the Stahlbaum family’s Christmas Eve celebration, blends ballet with puppets, costumes and acrobatics. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” ballet debuted in 1892.
• Straight No Chaser, 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 7. The male a cappella act, originating in 1996 at Indiana University, released the first of its 10 full-length albums, “Holiday Spirits,” in 2008. Straight No Chaser, known for its vaudeville-style kitsch, released EP “90s Proof” in July.
