Carbon county Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners conducted the following business during their weekly meeting last week:

• Authorized the submission of a grant application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for a Local Share Account grant in the amount of $94,931.17. The money would be used to purchase a vehicle for the coroner for investigative and transport uses. The commissioners noted that this would provide an additional resource for transport of a deceased loved one, as well as other coroner operations.

• Agreed to submit a grant application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for a Local Share Account grant in the amount of $77,035.24. The money would be used to purchase a new Emergency Management Agency Mobile Command vehicle. The current one is over 10 years old and was previously purchased by the Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Counter-Terrorism Task Force, of which Carbon County is a member.

• Approved the 2025 training membership program contract with Bucks County Community College for the bronze membership program for first responder trainings at a cost of $1,400. The contract is paid for through the 2024-25 Hazardous Materials Response Fund grant.

• Approved an amendment to an agreement with Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC for additional financial consulting services in relation to the opioid fund settlement funds. The amendment is based on 55 additional hours at an hourly rate of $275 per hour. All other contract terms remain the same.

• Ratified an agreement with Xavier Boston of Jim Thorpe to serve as a roving troubleshooter of the Nov. 5 General Election. Compensation was $200 per day, plus mileage at the rate of 60 cents per mile.
