A Cherryville man, Gary A. Neifert, opened an old-time barbershop at 132 N. First St., Lehighton, citing a need for the service in the community.

Neifert also owns a barbershop in Allentown. The Weatherly native had owned the former Mahoning Valley Beverage Company near the Carbon Plaza Mall before deciding to attend barber school upon closing the beer business.

Neifert said old-time barbershops are “becoming scarce,” pointing out at one time there were 3-4 barbers on First Street in the community.
