Lehighton hopes to add a new pumper truck to its fleet of fire company vehicles.
To that end, borough council at last week’s special meeting accepted a resolution to have borough Manager Dane DeWire apply for a pumper to replace a firetruck that is going on its 30th year.
DeWire said the funding would be through the Local Share Account statewide grant program. Council has requested the maximum amount of $1 million, as the vehicle was quoted at $1,008,000 on Nov. 4.
After the meeting, he said that Campbell Supply Company of South Brunswick, New Jersey, provided the estimate, representing KME Fire Apparatus.
DeWire added that if the grant is awarded, the unit proposed will be ready for delivery within 27 to 30 months from receipt and signing of the approved contract.
“Typically, statewide LSA grant awards are not made public until early November, so it will be an entire year before we hear anything,” DeWire said.
