Parking lot restricted in Tamaqua

Parking on the lot at 17 W. Broad St. in Tamaqua is only for customers of Wells Fargo bank and patients of St. Luke’s and Banning Orthodontics.

Management for the property noted in a Facebook post that beginning Dec. 1, vehicles using the lot for any other business or purpose during — and after — business and banking hours will be towed at the owner’s expense.

According to the post, management has asked tenants to monitor the lot during business hours and to contact the local towing company to have illegal vehicles towed during business hours. The lot will be monitored with and without video surveillance after hours and on weekends, the post noted.

This decision is based on several issues including skyrocketing liability incidents and costs, maintenance expenses from lot wear and tear that only tenants pay for, and countless complaints from tenants at the businesses who say their customers often come to them stating that they have nowhere to park.

In addition, the businesses have had difficulty clearing the lot of ice and snow due to parked vehicles, which results in slip and fall claims that management said it can no longer tolerate.

Wells Fargo’s designated ATM spots will remain open for ATM use.

Management asked that the Facebook post be shared with “as many folks as you can so nobody gets an unnecessary and unexpected towing bill for the holidays.”
