The recent weeklong wildfire on the Blue Mountain was a challenge for members of the Lehigh Township Fire Company, their families and the township board of supervisors.
At the township monthly meeting, each supervisor thanked all the firefighters for doing such a great job.
Chairman Mike Jones said, “I really learned what firefighters do. It’s just so amazing.”
During the fire, the township building was the command center. All of the supervisors, the manager, Alice Rehrig; and all the employees of Lehigh Township went above and beyond to do whatever was needed to make things go smoothly, officials said.
Other business
Lehigh Township conducted the following business this month:
• Police Chief Scott Fogel reported Officer Joseph Dougherty and Officer Christian Surjan passed their probationary period to become full officers and Sgt. John Henry III was promoted to detective.
• The supervisors approved the restoration of the retaining wall near the baseball field at Berlinsville Park, a cost not to exceed $17,812.
• A temporary burning ban was approved.
• The supervisors will advertise the 2025 budget until the December meeting. Taxes will remain the same.
Coloring sheets from surrounding schools were sent to Lehigh Township, thanking the firefighters for doing a great job with the recent wildfire on the Blue Mountain. The walls are covered in the township building. PATRICIA INGLES/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
