Tamaqua poll respondents pick skate park over pickleball court

A pickleball court won’t replace a skate park in Tamaqua.

Borough Councilwoman Mary Linkevich said results of a recent online survey revealed that folks want the skate park to stay at Willing Park.

“The results were pretty impressive,” she said.

Linkevich noted that the survey garnered 869 responses. Of them, 64% were in favor of keeping the skate park.

“There were lots of very passionate comments,” she said.

Council, she said, will look for another suitable location for a pickleball court.

The survey was posted after a resident asked whether the borough would consider adding a pickleball court.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, council made a number of reappointments to borough posts.

Wayne Schickram will serve another five-year term on the board of health, and Brian Klusman and Adam Gallagher were reappointed to four-year terms on the planning commission.

Jack Kulp was reappointed to a five-year term on the City Revitalization and Improvement Zone Authority and a five-year term on the borough authority.

Council also reappointed John Comisac to a five-year term on the water authority, and Schickram and Mark Conville were reappointed to three-year terms on the Historic Architectural Review Commission.

All reappointments are effective Jan. 1.
