The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is again opening its annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest to all.
“We wholeheartedly encourage everyone to participate in this contest, which is open to all local businesses, individuals and organizations. The more, the merrier,” said Aimee Dotson, the Chamber’s executive director.
Tamaqua area residents have until Dec. 1 to register for the contest. Winners will be selected by the Chamber board of directors and a public vote on Facebook.
Those who take first, second and third place awards will have their choice of gift certificates from Chamber member businesses.
“In previous years, we’ve received some truly impressive and creative entries,” Dotson said. “Notable memories include the intricate displays crafted by the Tamaqua Elementary PTO, the Harry Potter-themed tree created by the Tamaqua Public Library, and the imaginative submissions from C.A. R. E. S and the Child Development Center.”
Trees can be real or artificial, but must be displayed by Dec. 8.
“We’re thrilled to have the trees displayed by Dec. 8, adding to the fantastic events organized by the Spirit of Christmas committee,” Dotson said.
The Chamber notes that trees should either be placed outdoors or be visible from the street. They should not obstruct sidewalks.
The Chamber also encourages participants to showcase their creativity, but asks that decorations are in good taste and appropriate for a family-friendly event.
“All entries will be showcased on Facebook, where you can ‘like’ your favorite to cast your vote,” Dotson added.
Winners will be announced on Dec. 22.
