Nesquehoning keeps tax rate same

Nesquehoning residents should expect to pay the same in borough taxes in 2025 as they did this year.

During the borough council’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, council voted to keep the millage rate the same as last year’s rate. That means that it stands at 20.8 mills: 17.5 for general fund, 0.35 for parks and recreation; 1.85 for fire protection; and 1.1 for street lighting.

For taxpayers, the action means that the owners of a $100,000 home assessed at $50,000 should pay the same in real estate taxes that they did in 2024.

Councilwoman Lois Kuba, chair of the budget and finance committee, said that everyone worked together this year.

“Everybody was really mindful and watching what we were doing this year and kept the budgets really under what we had projected,” she said, thanking all borough departments for watching their spending to keep expenses down.

One mill for borough taxes is approximately $62,000.

The budget will now be available for review at the borough office until Dec. 18, when council will formally adopt next year’s spending plan.

In other funding matters, council also approved awarded its liability insurance to a new company, MRM, for 2025. The cost for the insurance is $107,000.
