More rain needed before burning ban can be lifted

Even with rain and snow in the immediate forecast, Nesquehoning borough extended the burn ban for outdoor burning.

On Wednesday, John McArdle, borough emergency management coordinator, said that he and the two other fire chiefs in the borough have agreed that council should continue the burn ban for another 30 days.

“It’s going to take probably a good week’s worth of soaking rain before we can lift the ban,” McArdle said.

He noted that Carbon County’s countywide burn ban is in effect until Dec. 3; however, it is the municipality’s ordinances that provide the enforcement codes in the towns.

“If we do see a change at that time (after 30 days), we would be able to remove the ban,” McArdle said.

Council agreed, extending the burn ban for an additional 30 days.

Winter

In other borough matters, Councilman Bruce Nalesnik, chairman of the streets committee, said that winter parking will be posted the same as last year. Signs will be placed for the winter parking season.

The borough is also ready for winter, with all equipment up and ready, all supplies stocked.

“We’re ready to go if needed,” Nalesnik said.
