State police at Hazleton
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following incidents:
• A 61-year-old Beaver Meadows man was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, following his arraignment on burglary charges.
Police said they were called at 5:24 a.m. Nov. 16 to a home on Tamaqua Street, where a 60-year-old Beaver Meadows woman told police the man broke the rear door of her home to gain entrance. The suspect was taken into custody by police.
• A 30-year-old Weatherly woman is facing retail theft charges stemming from an incident at the Walmart store, Airport Road, Hazle Township.
Police said they were called to the store at 3:07 p.m. Nov. 19.
• A 47-year-old woman from Beaver Meadows is facing harassment by physical contact charges after police were called to a domestic dispute at 4:45 p.m. Nov. 17 at a property on Jeansville Road, Hazle Township.
A 42-year-old man from Beaver Meadows told police that he and the woman engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when she struck him in the face.
• A 60-year-old Nesquehoning man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and carrying a concealed handgun without a permit after police made a traffic stop at 7:46 p.m. Nov. 17.
He was stopped in a 2021 Ford Explorer for Motor Vehicle Code violations on East Broad Street, Hazle Township.
• A 23-year-old man from Hazleton is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after police stopped him in a 2008 Honda Accord following a chase in which speeds exceeded 100 mph.
Police said they attempted to stop the man at Route 309 and Church Street in Banks Township for numerous Motor Vehicle Code violations and the pursuit followed. Police said the man was observed traveling in excess of 100 mph in opposing lanes of travel.
The chase was ended in McAdoo Borough in the interest of public safety, but following a canvass of the area police said they observed the man driving northbound with the car’s lights turned off.
A traffic stop was performed and the man was taken into custody. He was then remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, Wilkes-Barre, police said.
