A decision on if Green Street in Walnutport will become a public road will be determined next month.

Borough council was scheduled to hold a public hearing earlier this month for those who were opposed to Green Street.

However, borough solicitor Michael Corriere said their lawyer raised an issue by the objecting party as to if Green Street was ever laid out as a plan.

Due to the uncertainty, council decided to continue the ordinance and public hearing until next month to gather additional information.

Last month, Corriere said the borough was trying to determine how many property owners are in favor and how many are not.

Corriere said there needs to be a majority of 51% in order for Green Street to become a public road.

Several property owners attended council’s special meeting to discuss the topic.

Council decided at that time it would circulate a petition to determine what the majority of property owners want to do.

If an ordinance would be adopted, Corriere said it would make Green Street a public road.

He said most of Green Street would be two way, but a portion of the road would be one way.

Green Street has been a topic of discussion for several years. In 2018, council approved a petition of the residents to grant their request to open up the street.
