Tamaqua Borough Council will likely hold the line on taxes for 2025.
Council tentatively adopted and approved advertising the budget for next year during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
“The draft budget does not include any tax increases,” said borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt, who prepares the annual spending plan.
Steigerwalt noted that he intends to fine tune the budget before it is formally adopted in December.
“If anybody has any questions or comments or whatever about the budget, please let me know,” he said.
Councilwoman Kathy Kunkel suggested increasing the borough’s appropriations to the fire department, ambulance association and fire police.
“If anyone has anything for me, I’ll see if I can appropriate it in the final draft,” Steigerwalt said after Kunkel’s suggestion.
If the budget is formally adopted in December, residents can expect to see the real estate tax rate continuing at 23.75 mills. The millage includes 22.40 mills for General Purposes, 1 mill for the Building and Equipment Fund, 0.25 mill for the Wabash Improvement Fund and 0.10 mill for the Street Light Fund.
Final adoption of the budget and the accompanying tax resolution will likely occur during the 7 p.m. Dec. 17 meeting.
