Basket Bonanza aids St. Jerome school
Toys, designer purses, housewares, electronics, food, tools, libations and cash are among the prizes that can be won at St. Jerome Regional School’s Annual Basket Bonanza.
The Hometown school will hold the fundraiser Friday and Saturday at the Lakeside Ballroom in Barnesville to give folks the chance to win just about anything under the sun.
“There is really something for everyone,” said Karen Weicker, coordinator of fundraising for the home and school association.
The event, which features more than 250 baskets and a selection of food and baked goods, will begin from 5-8 p.m. Friday. Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday, with prizes to be called at 4 p.m.
“We have basic baskets with prizes valued between $25 and $100,” and other prizes worth up to $500, Weicker said.
And then there are cash prizes of $500.
“We have a lot of cash,” Weicker said. “Everything was donated. Even the teachers gave $500 for the event. They are wonderful and they will all be working Friday and Saturday (at the event).”
Mega prizes include a Yeti cooler and Kitchen Aid mixer.
“Santa will be there this year. We will have a photo booth,” Weicker noted. “We’re trying to make it more of a holiday theme. We are hoping to have some Christmas trees up. We are trying to make it very festive and make people happy.”
Weicker said the menu includes halupki, halushki, stuffed peppers, roast beef, turkey barbecue, walking tacos, pierogies, macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, Coney Island burgers and more. For dessert, there are cookies, cupcakes, brownies, cakes, candies, kolachi and pies.
Like the baskets, all the food is being donated. Some, she said, purchase the food and take it home for dinner.
“It’s a fun, fun time for everybody — and it’s even more fun if you win,” Weicker said.
