Summit Hill wants to regulate car chargers
Electric cars are relatively new so many boroughs have no regulations for battery charging stations.
Summit Hill is one of them, but that could soon change.
The borough council has instructed its solicitor to draw up an ordinance with rules for installing the charging stations.
Kira Steber, borough secretary/treasurer, said an ordinance was recommended by the borough’s engineer, Ralph Hummel of Lehigh Engineering. She said Hummel has informed her someone in the borough submitted an application to put a charging station in their home.
Council President David Wargo said one of the regulations will be that people with charging stations can’t run a cord across the roadway.
Lights
Council member Marlene Basiago said the fundraising efforts for Christmas lights is moving forward, with T-shirts and other apparel on sale.
“We are extremely overwhelmed and grateful for what the community has given so far,” she said.
Of 33 sponsors sought, there are presently 21 committed already, she said.
The initial lights were sponsored by Attorney Joseph Velitsky and there will be some installed by his office this year.
She is hoping all the sponsored lights will be in place for Christmas 2025.
She said the lighting campaign is a committee event, and not being done by the borough council.
Other business
• The borough council agreed to write a letter of support for Coaldale Borough for a grant application that Coaldale is submitting for Christmas lights.
• The council agreed to a request from Tyler Calkins to host professional wrestling events in the Hilltop Community Center. Calkins seeks to hold shows on Jan. 11, March 8, May 10, July 12, Sept. 13 and Nov. 8. Proceeds would benefit the Summit Hill Recreation Commission.
The council said Nov. 8 won’t work because of a scheduling conflict at the center. The other dates are approved pending no scheduling conflicts.
Kathy Gieniec, chairman of the Recreation Commission, said a wresting show was held there recently and the people running it did a great job cleaning up afterwards. “I inspected it and you couldn’t even tell there was an event held there,” she said.
