State police at Fern Ridge - crashes
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:
• Pierre A. Fergerson, 41, of the Bronx, New York, was uninjured when he fell asleep and his vehicle crashed at 3:12 a.m. Nov. 3 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.
Police said he was driving a 2024 Ford Bronco westbound when the crash occurred. The vehicle left the roadway and hit two trees. It sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
• A vehicle struck a deer at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 2 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.
Police did not identify the driver of the 2022 GMC Terrain, which was northbound when it struck the deer that had entered its travel lane.
The Terrain sustained minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. Police said the driver was uninjured.
• Lorrie A. Custred, 58, of Tannersville, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 12:17 p.m. Nov. 2 on Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said she was driving a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek when she swerved to avoid striking several deer that were in the roadway. She drove off the west side of the road, where the vehicle struck a ditch, stumps and rocks.
The vehicle had to be towed from the scene, police said.
• Police said a 2020 Chevrolet Spark struck a deer on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township at 6:25 a.m. Nov. 7.
Police did not identify the driver, who was uninjured. They said the incident occurred at the intersection with North Rocky Mountain Drive and that the car had minor front-end damage.
• A 2024 Hyundai Sonata struck a bear at 7:04 p.m. Nov. 10 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.
Police did not identify the driver and said the vehicle had minor damage.
• Police said a 2013 Honda CR-V struck a bear at 7:18 p.m. Nov. 10 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.
Police did not identify the driver, who was eastbound when the bear tried to cross the roadway and was hit.
The vehicle had minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. The driver was uninjured.
• Katalina M. Gaviria, 24, of Tenafly, New Jersey, was uninjured when the car she was driving hit a deer at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.
Police said she was eastbound in a 2007 Nissan Maxima when the deer attempted to cross the roadway and was struck.
The car sustained disabling damage, police said.
