The Coaldale Borough Council accepted the resignation of Michael Taras as a councilman and its president during a rescheduled meeting held in the town hall last night, and named former councilman and council president Geno Poli to the vacant post.

Taras resigned effective Nov. 1 but the council was unable to act on his resignation due to a lack of a quorum at the scheduled meeting of Nov. 11.

With vice president Robert Hoben absent, Councilman Richard Marek presided at the session. He, Clarence Keich, Juel Gallagher and Warren Balliet cast their vote for Poli, despite Councilman Joseph Hnat urging the council to table the appointment, later voting “no.”

Other applicants for the position were Jane Buberniak and Ruth Mary Behr.
