No tax increase proposed in Summit Hill

Summit Hill Borough Council gave tentative approval to its 2025 budget with no increase in taxes or garbage collection fees.

The council held a special meeting on Monday and passed the budget proposal by 5-0 vote. In favor were Council President David Wargo, Vice President Joseph Weber, Lacey Gonzalez, Marlene Basiago and Edward Kane. Council members Alan Kruslicky and Karen Ruzicka were absent.

The budget is balanced at $1,651,016.

Final adoption of the budget is planned for the council’s regular monthly meeting on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the borough hall.

The trash collection fees remain intact because the borough has a five-year contract with Tamaqua Transfer. That contract expires at the end of this year.

The budget is based on 21.25 mills. Of that amount, 19.25 mills is for general purposes, 1.5 mills are for street lighting and 0.5 mills are for fire allocation.

The borough anticipates collecting $959,000 from real estate tax, which is nearly $10,000 more than budgeted in 2024. That is because some properties in the borough increased in value.

Although the 2024 budget for real estate tax income was listed at $949,600, only $893,725.89 has been collected.
