Walnutport advertises 2025 budget with half-mill increase

Walnutport residents could see a mild raise in their municipal rates next year.

Borough council is advertising the 2025 budget for public review with a half-mill increase.

If approved, that would raise the millage rate from 20.25 to 20.75 mills.

Council is expected to vote on the final budget when it meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 12.

Last December, borough council on a 5-1 vote adopted this year’s budget with a 1-mill increase.

Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker was opposed.

That raised the millage rate from 19.25 to 20.25 mills.

After that meeting, Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz said the average homeowner who lives in the borough would pay an extra $44 in municipal taxes this year.

Before that vote, Wentz noted that it had been five years since the borough last had a tax increase.

Wentz previously cited increase in the cost of living, as well as the cost of materials, as the basis.
