Two Pleasant Valley teachers decide to move on

The Pleasant Valley School District will be saying goodbye to a couple of teachers.

Patrick Smith, a teacher at the intermediate school, has decided to retire. In November 2023, Smith was the teacher of the month from the intermediate school and recognized by the school district for doing an exceptional job.

His retirement will be effective on Jan. 20, 2025.

Music teacher Christina Shoemaker has submitted her resignation. She was a music teacher at the middle school and the high school. Shoemaker’s resignation will be effective Dec. 20.

Shoemaker was one of the teachers who was part of the grade realignment in 2022. At that time, she was the choir director at the elementary and high schools, but then was assigned to the middle school, as well as retaining the high school as choir director.

School board director John Gesiskie wished the departing teachers well. “I would just like to wish Miss Shoemaker, the music teacher, best luck with her moving onto another career, a different district, and Mr. Smith when he retires in January. Best with his retirement.”
