Lehighton to hire superintendent
A leading candidate has emerged in the race for Lehighton Area School District’s next superintendent.
Lehighton’s board of directors has finalized an agreement to hire Jason Moser, pending an official vote Monday night.
If the board approves the hiring, Moser would begin his term between Dec. 16 and Jan. 18, contingent upon his release from Danville Area School District, where he is currently assistant superintendent.
His contract, which is posted on Lehighton’s website, would extend until June 30, 2028.
According to the agreement, Moser would assume the role with an initial annual salary of $140,000, prorated based on his start date. His salary would incrementally rise to $142,240 in 2025-26, $146,862 in 2026-27, and $151,635 in 2027-28, provided he receives satisfactory annual evaluations.
Moser, a Lehighton Area High School graduate, was also one of three finalists for the Palmerton Area School District superintendent post. That job ultimately went to Angela Friebolin.
The agreement between Moser and Lehighton outlines comprehensive duties, including overseeing daily operations, developing policies, and fostering relationships with the community.
Moser is tasked with strategic planning, supporting student achievement, and maintaining financial accountability. He will, the agreement states, lead initiatives to ensure curricular alignment and promote a culture of professional development among staff.
Per the contract, Moser would be entitled to various benefits, including a fringe benefit program, 35 days of vacation annually, and a $50 monthly cellphone stipend. Additionally, he may participate in professional meetings and organizations, with expenses covered by the district.
Performance would be assessed annually based on pre-established standards, including strategic goal alignment and operational effectiveness. The board would reserve the right to adjust Moser’s salary or issue bonuses based on performance.
Should the board terminate the agreement without cause, Moser would be eligible for up to nine months’ salary as severance. The contract also stipulates that Moser must notify the district 90 days in advance if he chooses to resign.
