The Carbon County Commissioners conducted the following business recently:
• Approved a loan to Area Agency on Aging in the amount of $100,000 to cover costs until state reimbursements are received.
• Reappointed Marshall Walters of Lehighton to a five-year term on the Industrial Development Authority.
• Reappointed Earl Henninger of Summit Hill to a five-year term on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
• Reappointed Timm Berger and George Karas, both of Lehighton; and Robert Miller of Nesquehoning to four-year terms on the county planning commission.
• Approved a change order with Barker and Barker Paving and Excavating’s contract for the Community Development Block Grant’s water/sewer improvement project on Cherry Avenue in Jim Thorpe. The change order increases the contract $6,445 for additional milling and paving, bringing the new contract total to $78,695.

• Retirement: Sherry K. McHugh of Jim Thorpe, public defender office manager, effective Oct. 31.
• Prison board appointments: Carlos E. Colado Jr. of Hazleton, Denise D. Hill of Coaldale and Scarlet M. Santana Reyes of Nesquehoning, corrections officers, all effective Nov. 11.
• Hire: Matthew J. Mottola of Palmerton, temporary part-time assistant public defender (grant funded), effective Nov. 8.
• Coroner appointment: David S. Keck of Lehighton, deputy coroner, effective Nov. 8.
