UVO to rededicate memorial plaque
The Lehighton United Veterans Organization will rededicate the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital memorial plaque in the Lehighton Veterans Memorial Park at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The relocation of the plaque from the hospital on to a memorial in the park was an Eagle Scout project of Jacob “Jake” Shellhammer of Boy Scout Troop No. 187, Lehighton, said Kevin “Spike” Long, commander, Lehighton UVO.
Shellhammer, as a tribute to these veterans, past, present, and future veterans, as well as inspiration drawn from family members who have served in the military, adopted the relocation of this memorials as his Eagle Scout project.
With his dedication and determination, present and future generations have the opportunity to reflect upon the sacrifices made to ensure our freedom.
Long said the Lehighton UVO would like to extend its thanks to all those who helped make the project a reality.
• Jacob A. Shellhammer of Boy Scout Troop 187, along with assistance from fellow members and family who tirelessly took on this meaningful project which will be a lasting memorial dedication to all Carbon County KIAS for now, and future generations to reflect upon the sacrifice for our freedom.
• Lehighton Borough and entities who continually assist and support our veterans. And to the community which continually supports our veterans.
The memorial was originally located on Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital as a living memorial to the service members of Carbon County who gave their lives in defense of our country in World War II.
Long said the Lehighton UVO extends its gratitude to all who made this project a reality.
