NL Little Theatre to perform ‘Clue’ this weekend

It’s a case of who, where, and with what, as the Northern Lehigh Little Theatre presents its fall play, “Clue.”

Show times are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Northern Lehigh High School auditorium. Price of admission is $10, and $8 for students/seniors.

Tickets can be purchased either at the door or ahead of time on the district’s website, www.nlsd.org.

Kayla Driscoll, director, shared insights as to why she selected this particular show.

“I wanted to select a show this year with really big name recognition,” Driscoll said. “Last year we did a new, just released production in the fall, so this year I wanted to do something on the opposite side of that coin.

Driscoll described the plot.

“Clue” follows the iconic storyline of the infamous board game and the 1985 film starring Tim Curry, as a suspicious invitation brings a group of strangers together at Boddy Manor, she said. “Secrets are revealed, violence ensues, and it is up to this group of suspicious players to find out the iconic trio of questions: Who committed the crime, where, and with what?!”

Driscoll said the students have “been in the thick of it, but are having a blast working on this show.”

The students include seniors Seth Schaeffer, who stars as the courteous, but ominous, butler “Wadsworth”; Reece Johnson, the klutzy, nervous “Mr. Green”; and Jameelah Gonzalez, as “Yvette”; juniors Lacey Groover, as “Miss Scarlet”; and Xander Diaz, who portrays “Professor Plum”; and sophomores Aidan Rudolph, as “Colonel Mustard”; Andi Szwast, as “Mrs. White”; and Lilliana Ayala-Barretto, as “Mrs. Peacock.”

Driscoll noted that the students have been rehearsing 2.5 hours a day, four days a week, since the end of September.

“If working on a brand-new work has its challenges because you need to tell a story to an audience with no background beforehand, then working on iconic pieces such as ‘Clue’ is a challenge because you need to break free of those preconceived notions and iconic performances that they recall,” she said.

Driscoll added, “This show is relentless.”

“I referred to it as a freight train on our first rehearsal to the cast,” she said. “Once the mystery begins, the bodies start dropping, and the paranoia of the characters begin to fester; this show is a barrage of hilarious antics, witty dialogue, and subtle clues for the audience to pick up on to find the answers of who, where, and with what.”
