Carbon County ranked second among the 67 counties of the state in the rate of deaths due to cancer during 1974, a just completed study of cancer mortality and morbidity by the State Department of Health shows.

The study shows during the five-year period of 1965-69 deaths from cancer in the county averaged 97 a year, as against 134 such deaths during 1974, giving the county a cancer mortality rate for the year of 256.2 per 100,000 population and a five-year rate of 175.7.

Among the top types of cancers that claim the lives of county residents during that period were bladder, breast and buccal and pharynx ailments.
