Tamaqua crews replacing purple lights

Tamaqua crews will continue to replace streetlights that have turned purple.

Resident Dave Clemson attended Wednesday’s regular council meeting to alert council of three streetlights that had dimmed to a purple color on Yetten Circle.

“It’s so purple, it’s almost black,” Clemson said.

A manufacturing defect in the lights causes them to take on a purple hue.

Crews have been switching out the lights as their schedules permit, said Jay Stidham, director of public works.

“They’re working on them. Right now, they are doing them when they have free time,” Stidham said. “They’ve been out with the bucket truck working on them.”

Stidham said since so many of the lights were malfunctioning on Yetten Circle, he would “bump it up the list.”

The company that provided the lights is replacing them at no cost to the borough.
