November 11, 1948 — Joe Lopez runs for two touchdowns and throws for two more to help Coaldale roll to a 36-7 victory over West Mahanoy Township. Lopez reaches the end zone on short runs of one and two yards in the first half as the Tigers, coached by Tom Raymer, grab an early lead. A fumble recovery by Ted Simchak sets up the first tally, while a pair of passes from Lopez to Stevie Bitsko keys the second scoring drive. After another fumble recovery, this one by Ted Lithgow, Lopez connects with Bill Firman on a 29-yard TD toss. The pair hook up again for a 24-yard score to up the advantage. The winners tack on a short TD run by Joe Kerak and a 35-yard pick-six by Joe Trechak.
