Carbon Veterans Day Parade lineup, parking
Plans have been finalized for the annual Carbon County Veterans Day Parade that will be held on Sunday in Lansford.
The five-division lineup will kick off at 1:45 p.m. and is being sponsored by the Carbon County Veterans Council with the American Legion Post 123, Lansford, serving as the host.
Post Commander Nate Krajcirik encourages the public’s viewing participation, asking the public to “help line the streets to show support and celebrate our nation’s heroes.”
The grand marshal for the parade will be Richard “Monk” Pogwist, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, 52-year member of the post, former mayor of the community and past 30th District commander.
Parade participants are required to register at their designated division at 8 E. Bertsch St. (lot of the former St. Ann’s Catholic Church), after which they should immediately go to their designated division and report to the division coordinator for proper staging.
Lineups will start forming at 11:30 a.m., and all participants are asked to be in place by 1:30 p.m.
The parade will start promptly at 1:45 and steps off at the intersection of Cortright and Bertsch streets proceeding east; turning north onto Chestnut Street, then west onto East Patterson Street (Route 209), north onto Springgarden Street, and west onto Ridge Street. It will disband around the 100 block of West Ridge Street.
School bus drivers are advised to send at least one bus to registration to register and pick up the boxed lunches for participating students. After dropping off students to their designated division, school bus drivers (only) are asked to park on both sides of the 100 block of West Ridge Street for pickup of students.
The parade judging station will be located directly across from BRCTV on West Ridge Street. Awards will be presented to the best appearing color guard, best appearing band and best appearing float.
Free American celebration flags will be distributed throughout the parade while supplies last. This year, a flyover is scheduled to fly above Ridge Street, with the patriotic display provided by Flying Colors Gender Reveal.
The parade will be broadcast live on WLSH AM 1410 and will be telecast live starting at 2 o’clock on Blue Ridge Communications TV 13. BRCTV 13 will be broadcasting live in front of the Blue Ridge Office at 20 W. Ridge St.
