Purse bingo
The Western Pocono Memorial Park Committee is hosting a Designer Purse Bingo on Nov. 17 at the West End Fire Company, Route 715, Brodheadsville. Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. For ticket information, call 570-992-5721.
Refreshments, such as turkey barbecue, hot dogs, pulled pork, pierogies, homemade soup, baked goods and drinks, will be available.
Touching lives
The Western Pocono Women’s Club will be doing two “touch someone’s life” activities at the club’s next meeting, which is Nov. 18.
Members will be making Santa ornaments to present to residents of the Getz Personal Care Home and also collecting items for Operation Touch of Home.
Anyone wanting to help the group can check out the OTOH website at www.operationtouchofhome.org and then deliver items to OTOH Pack the Mack Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 at Kinsley’s ShopRite in Brodheadsville.
Soup sale
Effort UMC has announced its November soup sale. The soups are roasted harvest vegetable and roast pork with cabbage and potatoes.

Orders are due by Nov. 20. Pickup is set for Nov. 24 after the Sunday worship services.
Fare increase?
A public hearing in regard to a proposed fare increase by the Monroe County Transportation Authority is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at MCTA in Swiftwater. The Pocono Pony is planning to raise fares for fixed routes, beginning Jan. 1, 2025, for the first time since July 2014.
Habitat helps
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is participating in a fundraising effort initiated by Habitat for Humanity International.
The local unit has donated $500 to the International Habitat unit, and Monroe’s executive director Scott Fabian reminds folks that, “Anyone wishing to donate directly can do so at habitat.org/hurricanehelene.”
Drive-thru meal
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting its next free community drive-thru hot meal from 5 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 20.
Help yourself
Via the Seniors Express out of the Monroe County Area Agency of Aging comes news of four support groups that can help families: Pa. Caregivers Support Program, which can reduce stress on caregivers 55 and older who reside in the same household (call MCAA at 570-420-3735); Alzheimers Support Group, which meets at Shawnee Ridge Elementary School the second Monday of the month (call Jennifer Kautz at 570-517-3735); Dementia Support Group, which meets monthly at Hughes Library (call Barbara Van Nortwick at 570-236-3380); and the Parkinsons Support Group, which meets at noon on the third Friday of the month in East Stroudsburg State University’s Monroe Room (call Pam Galina at 570-422-3247).
OTOH fall drive
Operation Touch of Home is holding its fall drive to send items to troops stationed overseas. The drive is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 at Gilbert ShopRite. The list is quite long, but does specify no glass containers.
Donation categories include food and drink; hygiene items; certain activity items; and batteries.

Dinner and auction
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is holding its spaghetti dinner and silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 23.
Knights event set
The Knights of Columbus Council 7141 is sponsoring a family pasta and meatball award dinner from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 24. Tickets must be purchased in advance, but children 12 and under can eat for free.
The event offers music, door prizes, awards and raffles.
Voucher redemption
People who received Farmer Market vouchers are reminded that the redemption period ends Nov. 31.
Save the date
Operation Touch of Home is asking people to save the date of Dec. 15, because that is when the Kindred family has designated the group as the respective nonprofit all-volunteer organization of choice for this year’s Christmas lights event. Donations are appreciated and can be dropped off when people drive by or stop in to see the lights. Santa will be there as well, with cookies and hot chocolate.
