The multimillion dollar Carbon County Courthouse renovation project is moving along, with work progressing on schedule.
On Tuesday, a crane could be seen lifting a HVAC unit onto the courthouse roof in Jim Thorpe so crews could install the new unit.
Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko said Tuesday afternoon that the crane was brought in on Monday in preparation for the work.
He noted that the plans changed for how the HVAC was supposed to be installed, saving time and money in the process.
Originally, the contract called for the contractor to disassemble the equipment, move it up to the courthouse attic and then reassemble it.
Sofranko said that the county changed course and instead opened up a portion of the roof to allow for the crane to hoist up the HVAC unit and place it onto catwalk constructed in the attic, where crews will then hook it up to ductwork already in place for the HVAC system.
“This definitely cuts down on time and does help with the cost involved because pieces did not have to be assembled, then disassembled and then reassembled,” Sofranko said.
The work with the crane took approximately two days to lift all equipment up into the attic.
Sofranko said work on this portion of the project is expected to be wrapped up Thursday.
