Pie crust pickup

Zion Lutheran Church’s preorders for already rolled-out flaky homemade pie crusts in a 9-inch aluminum pie pan pickup times are from 1-4 p.m. Thursday and from 9-11 a.m. Sunday.

Mass moved

Beginning Saturday, Our Lady Queen of Peace’s Vigil Mass will be moved to 4 p.m. and Saturday confessions will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m. The changes at the church in Brodheadsville run until March 15, 2025.

Food donations wanted

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is seeking donations of holiday foods such as canned vegetables: corn, green beans, carrots, beets, yams, cranberry sauce, etc.; and instant mashed potatoes and free turkeys or hams.

The pantry will next be open from 10 a.m.-noon this Saturday.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC is hosting a fellowship breakfast in Wesley Hall between its two services Sunday. The services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Nature walk

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, has a fun item on its calendar at 9:30 a.m. Saturday: a Nature Walk at Beltzville State Park. The rain date is Nov. 23.

Community supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, hosts Community Sunday suppers the second and fourth Sundays of the month. For November, it will next be served at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday.

Being thankful

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church is celebrating Family & Youth Sunday (Sunday school for all ages) this Sunday with fun and service.

The fun is on from 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. It includes a Bible lesson, light snacks, indoor volleyball and then continues with a service project: making sandwiches for Street2Feet, an organization in Stroudsburg that serves the homeless.

All Souls Day

A special Mass of Remembrance will mark All Souls Day at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, at 7 p.m. today.

There will be a special acknowledgment made of those whose funeral took place at the church since last year’s All Souls Day, with a special candle and their names read at the Prayer of the Faithful.

All are invited to the liturgy and to join in a reception immediately following Mass.

People can bring an item to remember a loved one (a picture, cherished possession or other memento) and place it on the Remembrance Table at the front of the church. They are asked to reclaim the items after Mass.

All are invited to sign the Remembrance Book before or after Mass.

Effort Women

Monday is the day for a meeting of the Effort Women’s Group. It will be held at 7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at Effort UMC.

OTOH meeting

Operation: Touch of Home will host a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at American Legion Post 927, Gilbert.

Holiday bazaar

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting its holiday bazaar in McCawley Hall from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16.

Quilt show

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s art show for November features Monica Doshi Weichand and Friends — “Exploring Nature through the Art of Quilting.”

Meet the Artist is on Nov. 16 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The four other quilters are Barbara Rodgers, Merry Train, Tonia O’Connor and Bernadette Faiella.

The group of avid quilters finds pleasure in designing, creating and sewing quilts. They sew quilts for their family, friends and loved ones. Various women are also involved in crafting quilts for veterans, children who suffer from abuse or life-threatening illnesses, as well as other nonprofit organizations. Mostly they love spending time together and building small treasures that last a lifetime.

The display will continue through Nov. 26. Preregistration is not required for the program, which is free.

Triple T-day sale

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is accepting orders for three items for Thanksgiving: filling, apple dumplings and celery seed dressing. The ordering deadline is Nov. 17. Pickup is scheduled for 5 p.m. Nov. 22.

Special collection

Next week, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will accept a special collection in support of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Nearly 38 million people in the United States live in poverty. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.otg/cchd.

Filling sale

The Laymen’s Fellowship of St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown is accepting orders for its filling sale as well as gravy until Nov. 12. The filling comes in 2-pound packages, while the gravy in pints.

Pickup of order is Nov. 26 from 1-3 p.m.

Senior Prom set

The Pocono Family YMCA is hosting the 22nd Annual Senior Prom from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Stroudsburg YMCA.

Music will be by DJ Kurt Kraeutler.

Grief support

The Western Pocono Community Library has partnered with St. Luke’s Hospice to offer free monthly adult grief support. Sign-up is not needed and the groups are free and open to everyone.

Meetings will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 27 (Grief at the Holidays session) and Dec. 11.

Sr. Center closed

The Senior Center in Brodheadsville (at Zion Lutheran Church) will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 28-29 for Thanksgiving.

Veterans Day

There will be a Veterans Day ceremony at the West End Memorial American Legion in Gilbert from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday.

The community is invited to come to honor all veterans.

Guest speakers will join the recognition event. A light lunch will be provided.

PVEN driver need

A partnership of Monroe County’s Meals on Wheels and Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network needs volunteer drivers to deliver food pantry boxes to homebound clients.

Anyone interested in driving a delivery route or “distributing food boxes, or simply making phone calls to chat with clients,” is encouraged to contact the office at 570-420-3747.

Youth bake sale

Effort UMC Youth Group members, the Wavewalkers, are holding a holiday bake sale. Being offered are pumpkin pie, apple crumb pie, pumpkin bread (loaf) and chocolate chip cookie bar tray for preordering.

Order forms are on the church’s Welcome Center.

The deadline to order is Nov. 17. Pickup is set for Nov. 24.

Seed swap?

Anyone who collects seeds from the garden for next year’s crop might want to join a proposed seed swap group.
