Heffley unopposed for seventh term

Facing no opposition in Tuesday’s General Election, Rep. Doyle Heffley was virtually assured re-election to his 122nd Legislative District seat.

The Republican lawmaker, who has represented Carbon County since succeeding Democratic Speaker of the House Keith R. McCall in 2011, received 27,599 unofficial complimentary votes from county voters yesterday.

“We’ve seen great turnout and a lot of enthusiasm at the polling places everywhere that we’ve gone,” Heffley said, while traveling around the district with his wife, Kellie, on Tuesday. “We’re happy to have a broad base of bipartisan support from all the residents in the 122nd District. We’re just really humbled and grateful for the support that we have through Carbon County, and we’re really looking forward to continue to work hard for the residents here in the district.”

Heffley, of Lower Towamensing Township, won his seventh two-year term since he first defeated Democrat Justin Yaich of Jim Thorpe in 2010.

Since then, he defeated five other Democrats in succeeding elections, including Ronald Rabenold in 2012, Patricia Borger in 2014, Neil Makhija in 2016, Kara Scott in 2020 and Richard Kost in 2022.

In the current legislative session, Heffley serves as chair of the Human Services Committee, which has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.

As a 1989 graduate of Lehighton Area High School, he is a graduate Lincoln Technical Institute with a degree in architectural drafting and design.

Before being elected to the House, he served in a management position as a consultant in the trucking industry.
