Republican challenger Rob Bresnahan Jr. has taken the lead over longtime incumbent Matt Cartwright for the 8th Congressional District. Bresnahan has 155,840 votes as of 12:30 a.m. Cartwright, a Democrat, has 141,459 votes.

Cartwright has served six terms. Bresnahan is a first-time candidate and developer who runs a family construction company in the northeastern Pennsylvania district that includes parts of the West End of Monroe County.
