Letter to the editor: Grandma wouldn’t approve

My grandmother was born on Aug. 17, 1896 in Packerton, where she lived until she married.

I never met her, but I heard stories. She told my Dad not to go near the water when he went swimming. (She had a sense of humor.)

Even though it was after the Depression, her husband found a job with the Lehigh Valley Railroad and she was able to stay home and raise my dad until she died at 34.

But, times have changed, and even though some things are better, my grandmother wouldn’t approve. Even with two working parents, families live paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to buy a home. But, this won’t change if the Republicans give the billionaires another tax break as planned.

We need to reclaim our strong middle class and the strong sense of family values that makes America great. The current administration created 15.7 million new jobs in 3½ years — a record number.

The Democrats tried to pass the biggest immigration bill in our history, and Trump told the Republicans to vote it down so they could turn it into a negative for the Democrats instead of an accomplishment. Republicans now use it as a scare tactic. I will tell you one more thing about my Grandmother: She would not be watching a “news” program that settled on a fine of $787,500,000 for pushing conspiracies. Please vote in this election based on facts. Our middle class and the climate depends on it.
