State police at the Frackville barracks reported that a car struck a bear on Route 209 in Schuylkill Township at 7:19 p.m. Oct. 16.

Police said Priscilla C. Knott, 34, of Pottsville, a passenger in the vehicle driven by Derek A. Deimler, 42, of Harrisburg, had minor injuries.

Both vehicle occupants were transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to Lehigh Valley Hospital to be evaluated, according to police.

Deimler was westbound in a 2012 Hyundai Sonata when the bear entered the roadway from the south shoulder and was struck, police said. The car had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
