Witches’ Midnight Market draws crowd

Mystery and an air of magic filled downtown Lehighton on Saturday for the second annual Witches’ Midnight Market, bringing an estimated 10,000 into the area.

About 150 vendors were on hand with unique goods and services, ranging from artists to authors and also including savory foods and sweet treats from local and distant sources.

Many were dressed in their witchy best to craft and dance, sharing traditions with those in attendance at the event, which ran from around 2-11 p.m.

People gathered with anticipation to take part or watch a Witches Walk and dance of Hexenbrut.

After nightfall, the crowd formed a circle around an aerialist and fire performers from Aerial Inferno that illuminated the night with props, silks and swords in flow with the elements of the Tarot.

Tina and Mike Henninger of Lehighton, owners of Wine & More on 1st, have created events for the residents and businesses to help revitalize the area they love.

“We’re trying to keep this downtown alive,” Mike Henninger said,

Tina Henninger said they started events to increase downtown foot traffic.

“If I can get feet onto the street, then it’s up to the businesses to get them into their shop and sell things,” she said. “This started last year as a vendor fair inside my store that went viral, ended up closing the street to have it and it went very well, a lot of people loved it.

“Everyone had a great time, so we decided we’re going to do it as a thing.”
