2 brothers facing gun, other charges

Two Palmerton brothers have been charged by state police after a burglary investigation.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Ryan English of the Lehighton barracks in the case against Ryan and Jarred Dillman:

The investigation began while conducting a burglary investigation in Lower Towamensing Township, with Jarred Dillman, 34, was identified as a suspect.

On Aug. 5, English and Trooper Daniel Magarelli conducted an interview with Jarred Dillman at the Carbon County Correctional Facility, where he was jailed on charges of burglary filed by the Palmerton Borough Police Department.

During the interview, Jared Dillman said that he committed the burglary on Little Gap Road with another man and had stolen various items.

He told investigators that there was stolen property from the storage facility at his residence in the 300 block of Forest Drive.

English and Magarelli traveled to Jarred Dillman’s residence and met with his father and his brother, Ryan Dillman, 36, the co-defendant, who assisted by obtaining items they believed had been stolen.

On Sept. 6, English obtained a disk from the Carbon County Correctional Facility that contained inmate telephone conversations conducted by Jared Dillman from Aug. 9 through Aug. 12. While reviewing a recorded telephone conversation between Jarred and Ryan Dillman, English recognized the voice of the two speaking.

During the recorded conversation, the Dillman brothers began talking about hunting and archery equipment. Ryan Dillman told Jared Dillman that some of his property may be placed in their father’s closet.

The Dillman brothers are prohibited from possessing firearms due to them both having a 2009 conviction for robbery.

Police executed a search warrant at the residence later that day and were met by the Dillman brothers’ father. Police said they were there to seize a Benelli shotgun, but the father said the shotgun was his and that it was currently in his closet.

The Dillman brothers’ father said that the shotgun was purchased by his brother-in-law and was intended to eventually be owned by his sons.

Police seized a black magazine containing 29 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition and a green plastic ammunition box containing 51 12-gauge shotgun shells from Jarred Dillman’s bedroom. They also seized an AR-15 style rifle from the father’s closet.

The location of the shotgun and the items in Jared Dillman’s bedroom indicated that both he and Ryan Dillman had access to the firearms stored in the closet.

Ryan Dillman had moved the gun and was charged with tampering with physical evidence of the possession of the firearm by a prohibited person. He also possessed the gun as a prohibited person and had access to firearms and ammunition stored in the closet.

Jarred Dillman faces charges of possession of firearm prohibited; conspiracy — possession of firearm prohibited; and criminal use of communication facility. Ryan Dillman faces the same charges plus a charge of tamper with/fabricate physical evidence.

The brothers are currently jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 monetary bail each, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.
