Fire companies from several Carbon County communities responded to a brush fire Monday afternoon in East Penn Township. The fire was reported just after 4 p.m. in the 1800 block of Mahoning Mountain Road. Firefighters found a large field on fire to the rear of the residence. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Earlier, fire companies from two counties were fighting a quick moving brush fire in West Penn township. Shortly after 3 p.m. a brush fire was reported in the seven hundred block of Orchard Road. A homeowner was burning behind his garage when high winds carried the flames into a heavily wooded area. Fire companies from West Penn, Mahoning Valley, New Ringgold, Walker township and Tamaqua are on scene.
