State police at Frackville report on crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Derek A. Deimler, 42, of Harrisburg, and Priscilla C. Knott, 34, of Pottsville, were transported to an area hospital when a car struck a bear at 7:19 p.m. Oct. 16 on Route 209 in Schuylkill Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill in Pottsville for medical observations.
Police said Deimler was operating a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, in which Knott was a passenger, when the bear entered the highway from the south shoulder and was struck.
The car was towed from the scene.
• Jose M. Maldonado, 33, of Mount Wolf, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:02 a.m. Oct. 21 on Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue Squad to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill in Pottsville.
They said he was driving a 2011 Honda southbound when it came upon a deer carcass in the left travel lane. They said Maldonado lost control of the car, which entered the grass median and overturned about four times before coming to rest.
The car was towed from the scene.
• Jaiuan R. Curry, 20, of Pottsville, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:18 p.m. Oct. 9 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency & Rescue Squad to an area hospital.
They said he was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima southbound when it traveled off the roadway onto a grassy area, where it struck an embankment and overturned onto its roof, coming to rest off the southbound lane.
The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Police said Curry was cited after the crash.
• A 17-year-old boy from New Ringgold escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10:55 p.m. Sept. 27 on the Clamtown Road, East Brunswick Township.
Police said he was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger northbound when it left the right side of the road and struck an embankment and traffic sign before reentering the roadway, where it flipped multiple times and came to rest on its driver’s side.
• Brent A. Mertz, 54, of Lansford, was involved in a one-vehicle crash at 3:21 p.m. Oct. 18 on Market Street (Route 209) in Blythe Township.
Police said he was driving a 2010 Toyota Highlander south when it left the west side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Police said Mertz was cited after the crash the incident.
• Police said the driver of a 2020 Jeep Cherokee that crashed at 11:25 a.m. Oct. 17 at the intersection of Miller’s and Mountain roads in North Union Township is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the suspect was transported to an area hospital for a legal blood draw after the crash.
