12 inducted into Panther Vy. National Honor Society
Four seniors and eight juniors were inducted into the Panther Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society during a ceremony in the high school auditorium.
The seniors inducted are Abigail Benack, Abraham Cabrera, Frank Shubeck and Michael Williams.
Junior inductees are Ava Alabovitz, Benjamin Baneravage, Brody Breiner, Caroline Breslin, William Damian, Hannah Shreffler, Destiny Wentz and Gavin Yuricheck.
Officers of the Honor Society are seniors Natalie Vermillion, president; Emma Dacey, vice president; Myla Krapf, secretary; Marlena Smith, treasurer; and Brenna McAndrew, social media coordinator.
Vermillion conducted the Lighting of the Candle of Eternal Knowledge.
Explanation of the four pillars of the NHS were Smith, scholarship; Dacey, service; Krapf, leadership; and McAndrew, character.
The members were introduced by Terri Williams, adviser of the National Honor Society.
The membership certificates were awarded by Patricia Ebbert, high school principal.
“Today is the day to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of the students seated here on stage,” Ebbert said. “Their hard work, dedication and perseverance have not gone unnoticed by their families, the PV staff, their peers and our community.”
The principal is a graduate of Panther Valley High School. She told the NHS members: “Recently, as I flipped through one of my yearbooks, I found myself transported back in time — some 42 years — to a simpler era when life seemed less complicated for Panther Valley students.
“Social media wasn’t a constant presence in our lives, and instead, we spent our days playing wiffle ball in the street, juggling four sports a year, needing a dime to use the pay phone to call home for a ride, and knowing it was time to come home for dinner when the streetlights came on.”
She emphasized the importance of time and then presented each student with a magnetic digital clock.
“This clock symbolizes something important: to never take time for granted,” she said. “Let it serve as a reminder of the friendships you’ve made, the connections you’ve built with your teachers, and the lasting memories created here at PV.”
She said “the most precious thing you can give to someone in need is your time.”
“As you travel through life, never forget that each and every second of each and every minute is a gift,” she said. “Use it wisely.”
The reciting of the NHS Pledge was led by Vermillion.
