Effort man injured when struck by vehicle on Rt. 209

An Effort man was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said Jacob J. Warner, 21, was transported by helicopter to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton.

Police said their investigation determined Warner made an unsafe road crossing of Route 209, about 250 feet east of Shafer Drive, and was struck by a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek driven by Kaylyn Alvarado, 23, of Effort.

Police said the vehicle had windshield and front-end damages and was towed from the scene.

Police were assisted at the scene by the state police CARS Unit, the West End Fire and Rescue Squad, Lehigh Valley EMS personnel and a local towing service.

A Facebook post by the victim’s mother, Karen Warner, states a Go Fund Me site has been established to help pay medical expenses for Jacob, since he does not have insurance.

She says Jacob is in the hospital’s intensive care unit and on a ventilator, having sustained serious head, face and eye injuries.
